This is Rob's
biography in his own words.....
In 1973, my brother James and I started a bluegrass
band called Parson's Trail [named after a street in Tujunga where we grew
up]. Also, my brother
and I were huge Gram Parson's fans.
In maybe '75, after our first bass player left, I found
a guy working at a deli in Montrose who
made an excellent Reuben sandwich. His name was Dean.
He also played bass and sang.
About a year later ('76?) our banjo player moved to
Santa Cruz to become a dentist. A friend of a
friend of a friend of a friend etc.... knew a guy who was going to
chiropractor school. His name was
Rodger. He also played banjo. We performed as
Parson's Trail for a few years till we went our separate ways in the early
80's.
After Parson's Trail, I played guitar and sang with
Adie Gray and Jan Chamberlain. I played in a punk band called the
Penetrators.
In 1985, or thereabouts, Rodger and Scott asked me to
join their fledgling outfit . Their original bass player
had a tragic accident. His colossal irritating personality fell on his
head and he had to leave the group. I was happy to oblige.
We performed together with differing personnel until I
left [I think in '93] to write songs.
-
I wanted to write
great music,
-
I wanted to make a
difference,
-
I wanted to
make people feel what I felt.
-
I wrote Bruno.
Since leaving the Grateful Dudes, I've written a few
tunes that have made the rounds in Nashville, but so far no bites. I made a
mandolin and am considering pursuing lutherie further. I'm making another
batch of three mandolin's...... hope they sound and play as good or better
than the first. I am a furniture
builder by day bluegrass player at night.
Thanks again for the page. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, do
not
hesitate to keep them to yourself.
Rob.
Please excuse the typos I had to write this in a hurry, Barry Silver is
trying to break into my house.
